Recovery Housing

Recovery Houses are safe, healthy, family-like substance-free living environments that support individuals in recovery from substance use disorder. While recovery residences vary widely in structure, all are centered on peer support and a connection to services that promote long-term recovery.  (SAMHSA)

Certified Recovery Houses in NH are those that NH Partnership for Recovery Residences (NHPRR) have certified as meeting quality standards for safety, recovery support, and ethical operations.

Family Supports

Family Support Services are an essential part of New Hampshire’s recovery system. Family Support Groups provide a safe and confidential environment for parents, caregivers, and adult siblings of loved ones living with a substance use disorder to share experiences, struggles, and successes. Groups are free and lead by trained facilitators.

IMPORTANT: Due to COVID-19, many Family Support Groups are holding on-line meetings so that individuals who have family members and loved ones with a substance use disorder can continue get the help and support they need from the safety and comfort of their own home.

Peer Recovery Support Services

  • Recovery Community Organizations (RCOs) are peer-led and peer run agencies that offer services to support people in their recovery from substance misuse. The RCOs support all pathways to recovery and offer peer recovery coaching, telephone support, and mutual aid groups.  Find your Recovery Community today.  
     
  • A recent review of Peer Recovery Support Services (PRSS) in NH found several data points showing the value of PRSS. This study found that by joining in a variety of PRSS activities such as meetings, prosocial activities, and completing recovery plan goals led to greater success in recovery.   • We are pleased to announce the launch of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Peer Recovery Support Services (PRSS) data dashboard. This dashboard is available on the DHHS Data Portal and provides information on the demographics of current participants in PRSS and participation in activities provided by state-funded peer recovery support organizations in New Hampshire. We hope you explore the data to see where the RCOs are located and the impact they are making on the individual level while also strengthening and building recovery informed communities across the state.
