NHH Medical Staff

The Medical Staff of New Hampshire Hospital provides full psychiatric and medical care for all patients.

The staff includes psychiatrists, internists, family physicians, physician assistants, and advance psychiatric and primary care nurse practitioners providing coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to the patients with most complex psychiatric and medical conditions requiring involuntary treatment. Services are provided by practitioners who are directly employed by the state and by those who are members of the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. This is the result of a unique collaboration between state services and a leading national academic teaching center to provide the highest quality services to the citizens of New Hampshire. This collaboration started in 1988 and has proven to be a model of excellence recognized throughout the country.

All trainees have continuously ranked psychiatry rotations available to Geriatric fellows, Psychiatry residents and Geisel medical students at NHH at the top. NHH provides a great learning community that have often led the trainees to choose psychiatry as a career and get interested in public sector care.

Psychiatric staff works in close collaboration with the medical staff to manage the most difficult clinical challenges in the equivalent of a psychiatric ICU. This collaboration may include consultations with specialists at Concord Hospital and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, psychopharmacology experts from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, including child-adolescent and geriatric specialists providing care on specialized units in the hospital.

In addition to providing patient care, medical staff members are actively involved in teaching medical students, residents in psychiatry and fellows, and psychiatric nurse practitioners. Our faculty physicians and psychologists collaborate with departments of nursing, psychology, and social work that have students who are completing their studies at New Hampshire Hospital. The faculty and staff are engaged in research, academic publications and continuing medical education provided by Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and the New Hampshire Hospital Continuing Education Department. These educational resources are available to practitioners throughout the state and northern New England.
